What are Kruger Park day visit gate quotas?

SANParks occasionally implements gate quotas to control the number the total number of day visits in the park, the number of day visitors in each section of the park, and to distribute arrivals in time to avoid long queues.
When quotas are in place, each gate will only allow a certain number of visitors before closing. You can gain access by arriving at the gate or booking online.
When booking online you have to select a 2 hour time slot when you want to arrive. Usually, the earlier time slots are the most popular and fill up first.
How to know if the gate quota has been filled?
Check the SANParks day visit booking platform and check availability. Make sure to click on the gate details to see the time slots. Make a booking to secure your entrance. You will need to make payment in full. You can save time by printing and filling the registration form.
If you see no availability online, double check whether they have indeed closed the gate. In our experience there may be a different between the online quota and “walk-in” quote.
What to do if the gate quota is full?
Certain gates are more popular than others. The popular gates fill their quotas first, but other nearby gates might still have space. For example Phabeni Gate is more popular than Numbi Gate. Numbi gate is often the last gate to fill its quota.
These quotas only apply to day visitors. If you absolutely want to visit the park on a given date, you can book accommodation even if you don’t use it. Camping spots are usually the cheapest accommodation, though some historical huts, especially in Pretoriuskop and Skukuza are relatively cheap.
